The college roommate of the Phoenix Swords founders have a regular game night and by old tradition once a year we do a fire show at that event.

Even though there were severe thunderstorm warnings for that night, the weather looked good when we arrived, so we set up.

Some of the guests got involved in other juggling while we were getting ready.

Sadly about show time the weather did get worse. But, our friends live on the side of a hill and the storm seemed to bounce off the hill and go to the north. We could see it, but it stayed far enough away for us to perform.

But, we did modify the show some as the weather fluctuated to make sure we were NOT doing big metal things when the thunder was close.
And, as normal it started with Casey and CJ lighting themselves on fire for entertainment. Then a bit of fire eating.

Then Noah, who has been sword fighting with us for several years, did his first fire show with us. And, did an excellent job.

Although my wife is still recovering from hurting her shoulder at her day job, she still did a bit of fire fan.

Casey did his devil sticks.

Josh did fire club juggling.

Then, Tom and his whip only setting his shirt a bit on fire…

Then Ian and his fire staff

I couldn’t really crop the fire breath photos and capture them right, so bigger photos for this.

After we finished and were putting everything back in the car, the local police pulled up and an officer got out and asked to speak with the home owner.

"There was an anonymous report of some kind of ritual going on in your back yard," the officer told our friend. "I came over to check it out."
"No ritual, it was a fire performance," my friend told the officer.
He and I both pulled out our phones and showed the officer the video of the show. I explained we were fully insured and had been doing this many years.
"Damn, sorry I missed it," he said.
"Sorry, we’ve put all the equipment away or I’d offer to do some more."
"Do you want a burger?" my friend asked him. "We’ve got cookies and desert too."
"No thanks," he said. "I just wanted to check it out."
"Here’s one of our cards if you need to do a report," I said, handing him our card.
"I’m not writing a report about this. Have a good night."
He got in his car and drove off.

I think whatever neighbor called it in must have been watching the 80’s movie Dragnet, which coincidently Netflix suggested to me today:
