When we were doing our show in Philadelphia this weekend we were joined by members of the Historical African Martial Arts Association: (https://hamaassociation.wordpress.com/ )
We have a HUGE respect for these folks and are very honored when they are willing to join us at shows.

They joined us for two shows demonstrating a number of different techniques. Even I was able to join them with some of them.

Between shows they demoed several other things and got a great crowd reaction.

I can’t overstate how much the crowd is interested in their material.

My only regret is they’re so far from us and we can’t work with them more often. They do really great work!

Oh gosh, it's been years since I've seen black folks doing historical recreation like that! :D So awesome. I wish there were African-themed historical recreation events, that would be even more fun. But the only ones I've ever seen were European.

We’ve talked with them about doing a non-European event.
Don’t know if it will ever happen, but it would be cool.

*ponder* Maybe consider doing a small one for Juneteenth. Even a single day would be really memorable.

Here in central Illinois, Juneteenth events typically include a mix of modern African-American motifs and stuff that is either imported from Africa or refers to a historic aesthetic. So among the Black Lives Matter stickers and Rosa Parks T-shirts there are things like hand-carved masks, drums with cowhide heads, and dashikis. There's definitely an interest in from-Africa heritage.
