Rising Phoenix Convention

The Rising Phoenix Gaming convention was medieval themed this year, so they contacted us about doing some sword shows. Phoenix to Phoenix stuff…
https://risingphoenixgamecon.com/
We did two shows. A kids based show at noon and a historical sword show at 5.
The kids show was indoors in limited space, but we’ve done smaller.

As we got ready we showed folks out swords as we normally do.

Then, on to Saint George and the dragon.

Then we did a "Tiny Babies" show where we have the kids fight the adults.

Between shows we set up our stuff in the courtyard outside and practiced some.

It was a long show outside. We normally run a 1/2 hour show, but were given a 2 hour block. Our friend Frank Perrin who does Persian and Indian martial arts joined us for the show. So, we would do some European, then middle eastern, then trade back. We would run through similar weapon styles in the different areas.
I really like doing it this way and showing the similarities and differences. It works well, and gave us more material for the longer show.

Sword, bucklers and curved swords:

Then, some straight weapons.

A brief interlude of kids fighting again.

Then smaller weapons:

Then, pole arms:

Over all it went well. While not really the kind of things folks at a gaming convention are looking for, a fair number of folks did seem interested and we got some good feedback.
